Willits, CA — March 26, 2025 — The Rural Resilience Project (RRP) invites rural landowners, cultivators, and environmental stewards to attend Water Conservation Through Land Stewardship, a free, in-person workshop led by Dan Mar of High Tide Permaculture on Saturday, April 12, from 12–3 PM in Willits, CA—just 2.5 miles off Highway 101.

This workshop will explore how land management decisions directly impact water availability and resilience, with a focus on practical, regenerative approaches to protecting domestic and irrigation water sources.

Dan Mar brings decades of experience as an educator, consultant, and land-use specialist. He is a lecturer and research associate at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Cannabis Studies Department, faculty lead for the Cannabis and Environmental Stewardship Symposium, and a subcontractor for nonprofits funded under the Cannabis Restoration Grant Program, which is also funding this event.

Workshop Highlights Include:

  • Creating water budgets and assessing water sources

  • Installing rainwater catchment systems and harvesting earthworks

  • Managing microclimates (humidity, sun, and wind)

  • Soil health strategies and forest restoration techniques

  • Enhancing aquifer recharge and long-term watershed resilience

“This is more than a workshop—it’s a hands-on opportunity to learn how regenerative land stewardship can actively conserve water and rebuild ecological balance,” said Courtney Bailey, Executive Director of the Rural Resilience Project.
